Rice Cereal

Published by Gabe, Amber, Jada and Micah Carter under on 2:11 PM
Jada started eating her first solid foods (well, solid as in mushy rice cereal!) on Sunday! I was going to wait until she was 6 months old, but was just so excited, that I reasoned that 5 months & 4 days was close enough. :-)

She's been watching us eat & reaching out to grab our food lately; it's like she was saying, "Please, Mommy, let me try to eat from a big-girl spoon! I can do it!".

She loves her rice cereal (it's pretty bland & not so yummy to me...yes, I tried the tiniest little bit just to see what I was feeding my child)! She dives for the spoon and smiles while she's eating. Sometimes, she attempts talking & eating at the same time which results in a spray of rice cereal in Mommy's direction. She has always been quite the multi-tasker. :-)

Here are some pictures of our sweet baby enjoying her first bites of solid (ish) food.

And just for fun, here's one of my current favorite pics of Jada... I call it the "Air Guitar". :-)

Lookin' Good

We just wanted to capture what Jada does best...spitting up and looking good doing it. She's also really into trying to talk or at least she thinks she's talking. She's learning all about volume and thinks it's fun to talk really loudly. She even sighs loudly. We will hopefully have a video soon.

My First Mother's Day!

Published by Gabe, Amber, Jada and Micah Carter under on 7:00 AM

Today is my first official Mother's Day, although, personally, I consider it my second Mother's Day because I found out that I was pregnant one week before Mother's Day last year. In church last year, Pastor Brett asked the women in the church who were mothers to raise their hands. I did. I loved it. This past year has been one of the best in my life. My little family is such a blessing to me. My Gabe & Jada are just incredible. God is amazing.

Here are some fun pictures of our family:

Jada's Sleeping on Her Back!

Published by Gabe, Amber, Jada and Micah Carter under on 2:21 PM

Okay, so it's a little embarrasing to admit that Jada has been sleeping in her carseat since she's been 4 days old up until 2 days ago. Her acid reflux was causing her to spit up many times at night and she would start making scary choking noises when she was first born, so it made sense to have her sleep in a more upright position.

When she was 3 months old, I tried transitioning her from the carseat to sleeping on her back, but she woke up every 2 hours screaming. I don't know if it hurt her tummy when she was flat on her back or if she just didn't like it. That lasted 3 nights then I switched her right back to her carseat where she would sleep 8-9 hours straight. Yeah, I know... Mommy wanted to sleep.

Well, two days ago we decided to try again, after all, she is 4 1/2 months old & can't sleep in a carseat forever. I was so nervous & prepared myself to wake up every 2 hours again. On Tuesday night, I laid her on her back in her crib at 9:30pm & didn't hear from her until 5am! She woke up hungry, but went back to sleep at 5:45 until 8:15am! Not bad! Last night was night #2, and she slept straight from 10:30 - 8:00! Success! I'm so proud of how she's handling this new big-girl transition.

Her doctor recommended that we raise one side of the mattress so that her head's elevated (to help with reflux). Jada starts off in the right position, but then wakes up sleeping horizontally where the incline ends! It's quite funny...

Here she is stretching... Enjoying all the extra room that the carseat can no longer offer her...
